Ingredients:
1 can refrigerated pizza dough
2 Tbsp olive oil
1/2 C chopped onion
3/4 lb ground beef
3 Tbsp taco seasoning (see Taco seasoning recipe in Misc. recipes)
1 C Mexican blend shredded cheese, divided
1 tomato, diced, plus additional for top, if desired
1 1/2 C shredded lettuce
Sour cream
salsa
taco sauce (optional)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 F degrees.
Sauté onions in olive oil until translucent and just starting to brown.
In a separate pan, brown ground beef. Drain grease and add taco seasoning. Stir to combine. Set aside.
Unroll pizza dough onto parchment paper. On both sides, cut multiple 1 1/2" slots into dough. The dough will look like it has fringed edges.
Layer ground beef, tomatoes, and cheese in the center of the dough.
Braid dough strips over the top of filling, so that filling is almost fully encased in the dough.
Slide braided loaf onto a baking sheet. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until browned on top.
Garnish with tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream, salsa, taco sauce, and the remaining cheese.
